Empathize

Empathy is about digging deep, going beyond what people say and do. It is about creating connection and shared understanding based on thoughts and feelings. Gaining empathy helps teams center on the root problem and complexity of the challenge and drives them toward innovative solutions.

To help MAKO design its interactive experiences, the need for empathy went beyond surgeons to other healthcare workers, hospital employees, patients and their caregivers. This gave the team understanding of the full problem space and allowed for envisioning a great end-to-end experience.
